Albania Lek Coinage (Vittorio Emmanuel) 1939 to 1941
Vittorio Emmanuel III was King of Italy between 1900 and 1946. He declared himself King of Albania when the Italians occupied that nation between 1939 and 1943, although most countries did not recognize him as king of Albania. Unimpressed, Vittorio minted coins with his image anyway. Some denominations show his nearly bald head, while others use a helmet. All have the double headed eagle of the Byzantine Empire, as well as fasces, a bundle of rods around an axe, a symbol of strength.
Most of these coins are minted in steel, but the 5 and 10 lek coins contain silver, 0.134 and 0.268 troy ounces, respectively. Denominations are 0.05, 0.10, 0.20, 0.50, 1, 2, 5, and 10 lek.
The 10 lek in our picture is in nice shape and is a valuable coin. It comes from respected eBay seller ujkuixhybes in Tirana, Albania, and CoinQuest thanks them for use of their coin image.

You can see Nero's full name and title on this coin. He was born on 15 December 37 and died on 9 June 68. His Latin title was Nero Claudius Caesar Augustus Germanicus and he ruled Rome from 54 to 68, and the last in the Julio-Claudian dynasty. According to Wikipedia, Nero focused much of his attention on diplomacy, trade, and enhancing the cultural life of the Empire. He ordered theaters built and promoted athletic games. In 64, most of Rome was destroyed in the Great Fire of Rome, which many Romans believed Nero himself had started in order to clear land for his planned palatial complex, the Domus Aurea.

Ancient Greece Ephesus Tetradrachm with Bee and Stag 360BC to 133BC
Hello Kayla -- Well that's really neat. You have an ancient silver coin from the city of Ephesus, sometimes spelled Ephesos. Many of the coins from this famous city use a 'bee and stag' theme. The value of your coin depends mostly on its condition.
The word to the right of the stag is the Greek name of the magistrate in the city of the time. Think of him as a sort of ancient mayor, who oversaw the town and signed off on important documents. For most of these magistrates, nothing is known about them except through numismatic evidence. Is is pretty exciting to own a coin that is the only evidence left behind by a person who lived over two millennia ago!
Ephesus was a city in Asia Minor (Turkey today) that played a significant role in early civilizations, with ruins dating back to the Bronze Age (3000 BC to 600 BC), and included contributions to ancient Greek and Roman empires, and ending finally in the 1400s AD. The Temple of Greek goddess Artemis (Diana) was there, and it appears several times in the New Testament, including a prominent place in the book of Revelation when Jesus commands an apostle to write a letter to His followers there. 'Unto the angel of the church of Ephesus write ..' (Revelation 2:1).
The coin in our picture comes from Holyland Numismatics in West Bloomfield, Michigan, USA. Holyland's coin is a gorgeous specimen, with plenty of detail, little damage, and wonderful surfaces. Couple these attributes with its silver composition and you have a truly valuable coin. It is currently on sale for $1900 US dollars, a good price for such a fine specimen. Serious collectors will invest such amounts to add high-quality coins to their collections.
Another contrasting specimen appears in our secondary picture. This one is made of bronze and its attributes are not at all like the one from Holyland Numismatics. The collector demand for such a coin is much lower, creating a price point in the $50 US dollar range.
To estimate value, first decide if you have a silver drachm or tetradrachm:
then use these catalog values as very approximate indicators of value
BEE AND STAG DRACHM (3.9 to 4.3 grams)
worn: $100 US dollars approximate catalog value
average circulated: $500
well preserved: $1250
BEE AND STAG TETRADRACHM
worn: $200 US dollars approximate catalog value
average circulated: $750
well preserved: $2500

Medal US Presidential Dollar Abraham Lincoln Commemorative
This is a nice novelty item produced by a private mint and sold in gift shops as a souvenir, a collectible, or a conversation piece. They usually sell new at retail for $10 to $20 US dollars. They are big -- big enough to hold a genuine US presidential dollar as an inlay. Composition is silver-plated base metal.
If you tried to sell yours to a shop owner, he or she would probably offer one dollar, maybe two. But you might be able to sell the same item to a collector on eBay for $10 or more. They are popular as gifts.

Communist China's People's Liberation Army (PLA), founded in 1927 and now with more than 2000000 soldiers, is the world's largest fighting force. This brass medal commemorates the PLA. You can find them on eBay for about $10 US dollars.
These are modern coins made of aluminum. Not many were made, and the series is short-lived (only 5 years), and this drives the price up somewhat because there are not many coins to meet collector demand. Coins minted in 1947 are especially rare.
